Pedometers have exploded in popularity in recent years, with everything from cheap giveaways (from fast food restaurants no less) to GPS-based dynamic sports trackers costing hundreds of dollars. The idea is the same as the signs in your neighborhood or fuel efficiency in your Prius - feedback. By seeing how many steps you take, it encourages you to walk more and live a more active lifestyle.
The Smart Health watch is a great idea - following the "Start Walking!" guide of Denise Austin, it encourages even the most sedentary people to get moving. Many reviewers here are panning the watch, and I'll get to that soon, but what it does is offer an affordable entry level product into the world of biofeedback.
Now on to the watch itself - this is a product worth what you pay, about $40. It is certainly not as attractive of a sports watch as the Timex Men's T5J571 1440 Sport Digital Resin Strap Watch. It has a big black plastic face, plastic buttons, and a really 1980's looking LCD display. It is fairly easy to set, but does not have many functions typical of sports watches like a stop watch, alarms, or calendar. It does have a nice backlight that is reminiscent of Timex Indiglo.
The watch counts steps and reports total distance walked and calories burned. It also measures heartbeat on demand by pushing a silver button. The heartbeat monitor works quite well and I might just keep the watch around for that capability - it's nice to get a quick pulse during a workout, walk, or even a bike ride.
There is some advanced setup - you can input your age, gender, height, and weight to adjust the calorie calculation. You can also adjust the step sensitivity between low, medium, and high, in case you feel it is under or overcounting steps.
Unlike other pedometers, there is no way to adjust stride length, but the manual says it does it automatically. I'm not sure about this - the accuracy seemed suspect compared to using a walking application on my iPhone with the GPS.
The watch also comes with a 30-day trial of Denise Austin's website, and a guide on how to get started walking.
The main downside of the watch looking drab and lacking other features is that you won't wear it all day, and likely will only put it on to go walking, defeating the idea of the walking lifestyle where you try to add steps all day in as many ways as you can (such as parking far away from the store). I suspect most will just put the watch on before leaving for a walk.
Other reviewers have noted the watch is difficult to rate, and I agree. My review says it all, but if I were to boil it down, I'd have to say 4 stars. The low price is indicative of the quality you will get. To earn 5 stars, I'd like to see it at least add a few more features similar to other low-cost sports watches and also improve the all-plastic look. Bottom line - when you get more into it, you will buy a better watch. But the market needs entry products, and this is a fine one for that purpose.

It is nice one, I’m using fit4-future’s MOVband, it is also wrist worn pedometer. it gives me accurate counting of my daily workouts. I was really satisfied with this pedometer.
Hmm I am not too sure about this one, I have heard that the wrist ones actually count steps when your not moving... or when your driving. I have been looking for a pedometer online, and have come across a few that go on your wrist. This would be ideal for what I need. But I guess I would have to read some more reviews first.
